Working my loads up from a book recepie. It's a Remington Core-Lokt 385gr JHP. I charged the cartridge with 40.1gr of H110. Should have some definite thumpage...LOL

that's more than double my load for a 357 mag and that tingles my hands a bit when I shoot that....

What kind of crimp are you running? The first ones I loaded went BANG BANG THUMP. Bullets started jumping out of the cases under recoil. H110 needs all the pressure it can get. Getting the cylinder open is a pain in the butt to clear a squib. I run a Redding profile crimp to make sure I lock down those jacketed 500mag bullets. Cast Boolits don't seem to have the trouble jumping out of the cases.

Enjoy those 385s. If your going to shoot indoors be ready for the ball o fire. H110 is best for that

I am using the Lee collet style crimp die with a firm (but not overkill) crimp and minimal case expansion when seating the bullet.

I've been interested on how the Lee collet crimp works. When I purchased the Redding one Lee wasn't available.

I also have the RCBS dies. However I much prefer the Lee collet die as the case remains supported while inside the die, so you're able to apply a ton of pressure without collapsing the case. My understanding is that a collet crimp is much stronger than a roll crimp.

The collet die is the most innovative and best die Lee makes. It basically eliminates most of the ills associated with the roll crimp process. Great choice. The other really innovate die Lee invented is the mandrel neck sizing die for rifle rounds.
