    Newbie needs help.

Got enough brass saved up to justify buying eqiupment and manuals. Some of it has case mouths like these. Are they resizable? Or should I toss them.

Gotta go to my nieces B-Ball game so I will check back tonight.
    Thanks in advance.

after the resize comes the belling of the case mouth to accept the end of the bullet that is were you need to be concerned because that is where the case mouth could be deformed and where you need to make the decision to keep it or toss it

Do what I do and get yourself a carpenters nail punch. Slowly insert it into the case neck and it will expand the case neck back (to a decent) round shape. Turn the punch slowly again in a small circle to open up the case mouth. Then lube the case mouth and case. Resize the case.

        Case saved.

        Case closed.

I resize brass with necks like that all the time. The expander ball is tapered for a reason.

after tumbling, and possibly resizing, those with cracks you want to toss out.

CAPTAIN: belling rifle cases?? i think you are referring to pistol cartridges.

i basically do the samething that SIDELINE does. it makes reloading more consistent on a progressive. also try buying/building a brass catcher and you won't dented cases anymore.

That is incorrect. Dented case necks have nothing to do with them falling on the ground. Almost all semis dent cases. It happens as part of extraction so a brass catcher will not help with that.

alright NOBS11, i'll correct myself. SOME semi's dent case mouths, mine don't.

you might want to adjust your gas system (if this is possible for your rifle type) or tune you ejector if your brass is getting really beat up.

interestingly, a fair amount of the NEW brass you has dented mouths.... go figure

A pair of small needle nose pliers on the bench will straighten the case mouths enough to resize.

I wouldn't do that. You risk cracking the neck. Just let the sizer die take care of it.
