    Optimal Operating Height: Dillon 550

I intend on purchasing a Dillon 550. At what height should the 550 be relative to the operator? I am 6" 1" and built my bench at 42-3/4" high. I expect to stand most of the time.

I may or may not need the Inline Fabrication Ultra Mount or Dillon Strong Mount, given the bench height. ??? If not needed, I can mount the Dillon to a larger solid 1/4" thick base plate to add stability if necessary.

I like the shell plate to be about chest high, which makes me reach up to pull the handle. I like the work area pretty close to my eyes.

But i havent tried a lot of other heights, thats just what works for me.

I am also 6 1" and I load standing as well.

My 550B on top of its strong mount is exactly 44" from the floor to the bottom of the presses mount surface. When I first set it up on its strong mount I thought it was perfect height, but after 75K+ rounds through the old gal, I realize she was too short. Another 6" would have been better.

Have fun, you will likely love that press.

I load standing. I am a bit short of 6' tall.

The bases of all my presses are at an installed height of 44 inches.

Anything lower is a serious pain in the back.

I might put a 2 inch block of aluminum under my 650's as they get used a bunch. Higher is better IMHO.

I am 6'-2" and my Square Deal turret table shell holders are sitting at 52" above the standing floor. I too stand to load, never have sat as you seem to get better leverage while standing.
So, to go along with Bill Steele, mine is set up in the realm that he thinks might work out better for 6'-1" stander.
I mounted my loaders (4 of them) to a plate that is then mounted into the jaws of a 6" large, swiveling vise which raises the presses to that elevation.

My bench is 38 inches high and the shell plates on my 550 and 1050 in around 48inches. I can both sit and stand.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.
