    Reuse pulled powder?

So I know that it's a general rule of thumb not to shoot someone else's reloads... But what about reusing the powder in said reloads? I was told that the cases were loaded with Retumbo, and I pulled a few and compared the powder to a sealed Retumbo. Is it too sketchy to recharge with the powder since it seems certain to be the stated powder?

I wouldn't because it is against my religion. I'm a devout coward.

I reload pulled powder all the time, just as long as I am certain it is what I think it is..

That's what I was leaning towards... They guy seemed super reliable and I've purchased unsealed powder from calgunners and haven't lost a body part yet, so figured it was not much different.

I don't trust and actual powder charges I didn't witness myself, but seems 99.8% the powder is what he said it was.

Also... Seeming it's such a slow powder it seems much less scary than say bullseye or clays, which look near identical and you can triple charge a case in terms of volume. Retumbo is compressed in half the data I see.

If they were my reloads and I was pulling them then yes. Being someone else loaded these it is hit or miss that the powder is what they say it is.

I never understood how people can be so sure of what powder they are looking at just by looking at it (and guessing by the load data), but plenty of people seem happy to do so.

To wit, the 10mm forum is full of 10mm factory pull downs that list the powder as positively IDd. I'm not brave enough to just load one up without a good workup despite they're being factory rounds.

What he pulled them down from will tell you a lot. If he pulled them from 338LM and was getting a lb for every 70 rounds, that would give a clue it probably is pretty close to Retumbo. If he said he pulled them from 223 rounds, well you know.

Looking at the powder and comparing it to some from the bottle (under a magnifying glass) can also tell you a lot. When you get up really close under magnification powders get pretty individual.

It also helps to know the seller, of course.

Boom... 338 lapua you are correct and I have 62 rounds to pull.

If the seller was credible (you can tell by talking to them for more than 10 minutes) and it passed the magnifying glass test, I would do a work up and keep on trucking.

Nope... simply not worth the risk.

^^^ I am with you. Powder is not that costly. Loosing life or limb is. Put it on your plants/lawn.

If there is just a shadow of doubt NO! If I pull a cull or two at the end of a reloading session then and only then I would put it bal in the bottle. The ones tossed in the coffee can and pulled monts later is fertilizer.

                              So they are your rounds?

                              You will be pulling them?

Even if you don't know for absolute certain it is retumbo (just told by the previous owner/loader), you will know the load density, bullet weight, etc., hence the relative burn rate.

I would not hesitate to use powder with those circumstances.
