    Reloading .40 S&W

    Hi All,

I have finally collected everything I need to start reloading. I have Allient Power Pistol powder, CCI & WSP primers and tons of 155 gr and 180gr lead bullets. Id like to start with the lowest recoil/pressure/etc load in 180gr. My understanding when reloading with lead bullets I should start my reloads at about 15% lower then the max grains. Is this correct? Another question, should OAL still be the same? Thanks for your help.

You really need to buy a reloading book and just use the starting load indicated. It depends on the type of bullets you have. If it's worth two pennies, it should have jacketed and cast lead bullet information. OAL should also be included in said information.

In my Lyman book it says for a jacketed 155gr JHP, you use 7.0gr of Power Pistol. For 180gr, you start with 6.0. OAL is 1.125" and 1.115" respectively. These are starting loads.

But for lead, it says the starting load for a 150gr cast bullet is 6.3gr of Power Pistol and 5.9gr for a 175gr bullet. OAL is 1.090" and 1.125" respectively.

    Buy a book.

Thanks. I'm placing an order for a book now.

You could also look at the Allient web site, they do post load information.

          But a manual is preferred.
