    308 ?

just curious, im lookign at the reloading data for 308 winchester, and it shows for a 150 grain and for a 168 grain you can use varget but then there is no varget listed for 165 grain, any clues????

you can use the 168 grain loads but make sure you start our 10% lower than max listed. For AR, 44 grains is max I would go. 39.9 is a good place to start. Remember, these are loads worked up on my rifle and may not work for you. Use at your own risk.

It's probably because that source didn't test any 165 grain loads with Varget.

keep searching and you might find something.
Here's the data from Hodgdon's website.
        165 GR. HDY SP
        Starting loads:Varget 42.0gr @ 2582fps (40,800 CUP)
        Max Load:46.0gr @ 2773fps (50,500 CUP)
        C.O.L. 2.750"

I shoot the Nosler 165BT out of my Rem700VS for a hunting round and I just use my 168gr SMK data... 39.5gr Varget

I have been playing with IMR 4895, IMR 4064 and Varget to duplicate a FGMM 168SMK load. On the Varget 1lb can they list 46.0gr as the best load. I also printed out the current Hodgdon load sheets for IMR powders and Varget. The load sheets list loads that are much higher than you guys are using and other manuals recommend. Their start load is 42.0 gr for Varget

I started with 42.0 gr Varget and bumped .5 all the way up to 46.0.

In my M70 Heavy Barrel Varmint 24" chrome moly barrel the max load of 46.0 did the best using a COAL of 2.80, Lapua case, Federal match primer and 168 SMK still not as good as the factory load. Pressure was ok at 70 degrees. Next up is IMR 4895.

The current Hodgdon load specs are higher than the Quickload profiles that have been posted.

            What am I missing?
