Borrow 309 size die? Blackout Casting Issues

I polished out my 309 sizing die to .310 and wondering if that's why I'm having clambering issues.

Before I buy another 309 sizing die I figured I'd check and see if anyone locally to me has one I can borrow.

Made some dummy rounds that fit and drop in the Sheridan case gauge but still struggle clambering.

Does your barrel have a shorter chamber length than your case gauge. Any marks on bullet that you have tried to chamber than extracted?

Yep, I get marks especially if load to COAL like the manuals say.

Wondering if .309 sizing will help, seating deeper and dropping powder OR reaming the barrel to a degree. I'm not familiar with the difference between chamber or finish reamer yet and if that's a good solution.

Why did you polish your die oversive?

Because I was reloading cast lead and rule of thumb is to to go .001-.002 over. Worked for all my pistol rounds. I need to slug these battles again. That will tell me.

Also casting for an m1a and everything I've read say they like .310 and some like .311.

Are you talking about bullet sizing or brass case resizing?

                OP,
That shouldn't keep your round from clambering unless your trying to run a bore rider.
Your sizer will not size the stepped down nose portion.
                What mold are you using?
I cast the Lee .312/155g and size to .311 and powder coat. Making the R2 nose just a tad large.
I have to seat a couple K's short of the crimp groove to keep the bullet shy of the rifling.

                  Molds I'm using are:

                  NOE 311365 plain base.
                  Lyman 311291 gc
                  Lyman 311413 gc
                  Lee 312-155 gc

I've got a few dummies that drop freely into the Sheridan gauge. Haven't plunk tested or from magazine yet.

No one with a 309 sizer in the Bay Area? Think I may order a other a Hornady OAL tool and Comparator.

I'll likely have to load mine a tad short. Still debating getting a throat reamer. I'm gonna drop some sized cases and close the bolt and look for markings.

Does it close with 308 jacked bullets?

I dont have factory rounds but yes, I made some 147fmj dummy rounds and it closes and ejects no problem.

I just ran about 11 of through and they worked and many are over 2.000" in length which I'm happy about.

I'm still going to order the OAL tool so I can get a set length for each bullet and be able to load on the progressive.

My powder charge will have to less which they were going to be anyway as I want to run light recoil under 1500fps to subsonic.

I still think reaming the barrel .001 would help especially since I plan to shoot mainly cast.
