thoughts on my recipe?

just comparing load data with anyone loading for 30-06. I run it through a clean 1903-a3 and at 100 yards still getting like a 2" group. 47.5 grains of h4064 and I like a heavier bullet at 175 grains.(barnes boat tail matchburners) thoughts? suggestions?

I hunt with a sporterized smith-corona 03A3. I didn't cut it, it was already done. I just got a great deal on it. Think I was in college at the time. Like late 1980's time. Anyways, because I have garands as well, I use imr4895. In fact I use the same load in the garands and hunting rifles. 47gr 4895 and a 150gr bullet. Super accurate in both guns. For 165-8 in the garand, I go with 45-46 gr powder. And they shoot great in the 03 as well.

As you're shooting a bolt, you could go hotter but why. I've also shot cast bullets and jacketed bullets with trail boss. I think 17gr. Talk about fun.

That'll more than hold the 10 ring on a National Match target, so if you're shooting with the iron sights that's probably pretty good! A friend of mine has an off the rack (at the CMP South store) 03A3 with the 2 groove barrel that will hold the x-ring at 200 yds (3 inches) when he's shooting it, but he's a Master Class shooter. I don't do nearly as well when I shoot it. What are your goals? Keep in mind you'll need to work up an ideal load for your gun; what works best in mine might not do as well in yours.

I assume you are talking about IMR 4064, Hodgdon doesn't offer a 4064 powder. You appear to be well within the range of acceptable pressure. I've never used Barnes match bullets, so I can't vouch for how accurate they are compared to the usual suspects.

shes scoped. if you wanna see the rifle I posted it in centerfire rifles. post is titled "because 1903's. lets see yours" . really my goal is just to improve my riflemanship. I wanna be able to shoot for longer periods of time accurately. the min/max for the powder was 46-49 grains ended up in the middle. you're right why go hot? thanx for the input. this is my first recipe for my first gun so feedback from the community assuring you that you're not messin up too bad is great to hear.

Consider shooting the Sac Valley 3x600.Thats 3 20 shot strings at 600yds with sighters.Match is JUne 12th.
