700x at Brownells

FYI I just bought 24 pounds (3 x 8# jugs) for $445 shipped from Brownells. That turned out to be about $150 per 8 pounds shipped or about $19 per pound shipped.

Wideners has 8# jugs for $134 which is just a tad cheaper. Thanks for the reminder. I'll remember to look there the next time. I totally forgot about Wideners since they didn't have much reloading supplies for the longest time. Although to be fair it was a time when nobody had supplies.

I don't have a Dillon, so I can't tell.

700X is flake powder, so it doesn't flow through the dispenser easily. The flake can get stuck or bridged, and give inconsistent amount when dispensed. Some dispensers are more friendly than the others. I used a Lee dispenser, and it's somewhat inconsistent but acceptable. I then switched to Hornady with standard meter insert, but it's bridged terribly and stuck in the dispenser. I then switched to Hornady pistol meter and it gives consistent results. I used to weighed the charge every 40 rounds, but with the consistency of the new setup, I don't have to weigh anymore.

Not only is 700X a flake powder, but its make up leads it to be very static ridden. When you pour 700X into the powder drop, the flakes are attracted to the bottle and end up both flying everywhere and sticking to the bottle.

I can understand when powder was hard to get (buy what you can find), but now that powder is somewhat available again I'd rather buy powder that meters better. For example, I see that HP38 is available at powder valley. HP38 (aka Win 231) is a great pistol powder -- works on a variety of calibers, meters well, etc.

I use 700X but only for reloading Shotgun where +/- .3 grain differences don't matter as much.
