75 grain 223 hornady imr 4064 load data help needed

Much better powders for .223 than 4064. Even in 308 size cases, 4064 is nostalgic, not optimum.

Yeah...seems that way, it was the first 8 pound jug that looked like it "could" load .233/.308/.270 all in the same powder.

I will load some various test rounds in each caliber and see what happens.......more than likely will be ordering a 8 pounder in tac and cfe 223, maybe others depending on how it goes.

Mk 316 Mod 0 ammo uses IMR 4064 with a powder charge that is between 41.5 to 42 grains with 175 SMK. IMR 4064 is a lot less temp sensitive compared to the RL 15 powder of M118LR ammo. Wouldn't call that nostalgic

For 223 Im a big fan of 8208XBR, similar to H4895. Comparing the two powders, my short line and 600 yard load are just a few grains off.

If you can't get Varget, go for H4895 since that is pretty much a go-to powder for 223 and 308 be it gas gun or bolt.

IMR 4064 with 223 (77s or 80s), 24 or 24.5 has done me pretty good just a pain to charge a case even with a Chargemaster.

OP, you'll find that everyone recommends Varget for a reason. However H4859 is used by a lot of people and is nearly as ubiquitous a rifle powder as Varget.

OpenSightsOnly above does a good deal of load dev, if he got 4064 to work I'd consider it a reasonable powder regardless of claims otherwise. There is at least one powder I use that no one should use and there isn't 223 data for but it works very well if treated right. It's terrible if treated wrong.
