    What is a Cowboy Ammo?

I've seen several Ammo selling websites listing Cowboy Ammo.
    What is exactly this?

Okay ... specifically, they are called Cowboy Action Shooting ammo.
What's the difference between this and typical ammo, such as FMJ and stuff?

usually lead bullets, often flat nosed, usually a very low-pressure loading.

        For use in SASS events.

CAS is particular about being period correct. That means using ammo with cast lead bullets. Ammo has to be under a certain velocity limit, yet be powerful enough to knock down steel.

You hear a "yeeeehaaaw" as the bullet leaves the barrel.

The bullet flys out the barrel with a mullet, chewing tabacco, spits in your face, and then stomps a mud hole in your *** with it's boot.

Actually, in most CAS meets they just need "ring" the steel. If they had to knock the steel over, imagine how much time it would take to reset all that steel with all that period clothing you're wearing..

Low powered lead bullet ammunition. Designed for low recoil so the cowboys
can have a slight speed advantage when shooting matches.

That's not the only reason. Most of the cartridges are supposed to be loaded down to classic black powder cartridge pressures and the associated velocities.

Cast-lead bullets, black powder pressure levels, lower velocities.
