JJ805 just scored the VC Reloading Club one of these, yes, in the red, white and blue color scheme and we put it to work this past Sunday at our Reloading Class.
Operation
This is one of those rare presses that does not raise the ram up to the die, it does the opposite, it lowers the die down to the case. It has a long handle and it feels as if the torque that the press can generate would make resizing large rifle brass to other calibers and dealing with larger cases like .338 Lapua a piece of cake.
Construction
This thing makes the RCBS Rock Chucker feel flimsy, it's like reloading on the Rock of Gibraltar. The ram is massive, the press is heavy. This thing is old school feeling, very heavy but smooth. We checked size with a .50 BMG case, if this wasn't just a 7/8" press, it could accomodate .50 BMG as far as length. I bet RCBS will make a .50 BMG kit version with this press, it would be great for that.
Weirdness
I have never seen a red, white and blue press. I must say, it looks better in person than in photos and the patriotic color scheme kind of grows on you. The primer cup to catch decapped primers is comically small, it looks as if it could hold perhaps 50 primers without spilling them onto the floor. We were thinking someone either has already or will be making a 3D printed primer catch with the tube for this press, it would make the primer dump ten times more effective.
What about you?
Feel free to weigh in with opinions, comments or especially if you have used or own an RCBS Summit press, it would be interesting to hear from long term users, we have only used this once, this past weekend, as we just bought and installed it.
