    New brass- what's the difference?

New to reloading- Looking at 7mm-08 new brass from Mid South.
50 ea of Remington is $25
50 ea of Nosler is $50

    Why the big difference?
Thanks in advance for your time!

Remington is cranking out brass for the "everyman". It should function fine. There are a couple of high end brass makers who cater to the competition / precision crowd and they have much higher standards.

I'd say if you're new enough to be asking the question, get the Remington, and once you wear out that brass ask yourself the question again and maybe it'll be time to upgrade. Or maybe not.

Nosler is high end compared to Remington brass.

Nosler is weighted and sorted by weight to be uniform. It has had the case flash hole deburred and has been chamfered. If I remember correctly the primer pockets have been uniformed also.
Re/win/Fed and some others have not had these extra steps done before you buy them.

Nosler brass should be very good (I haven't used it, but I've heard it is up there with Norma, Lapua, and Sako). If you are sorting your own brass and you buy Remington then you'll end up culling maybe 25%, and it will take you some time. If you are hunting then Remington brass is awesome, if you are getting into long range competition then buy the Nosler.

One thing most people dont consider is brass life. High end brass like Lapua is certainly more uniform and consistent than say Remington or Federal, and you should see accuracy gains from that. But the brass also lasts much longer. I get at least 10 loads out of my Lapua brass, sometimes double that. The remchester federal sorts get loose in the primer pocket and split necks much much sooner.

Factor in price per load and the Lapua is actually cheaper to buy...

Powdervalley has 7-08mm Lapua brass in stock right now for less than $0.94 each.

Less than $1 per case for Lapua is a steal. I don't fundamentally disagree with Mongoose, but I have noticed that in some lots of Lapua .223 brass the primer pockets got loose just as fast as my tightly swaged LC brass.

One possible benefit of using Lapua 308 palma brass is that you could go with a SRP if that is useful to you.
