    xm193/hornady ftf

so i went to the range today and had some fun. half way into my fun i decide i want to shoot the ammo i had bought at a gun show from milwal. the ammo was 55 gr steel cased hornady pratice ammo. out of 100 rounds of this ammo that i baught 23 rounds ftf. WTF!! i was told by the guys at the show that this was quality practice ammo. was i lied to? i was really liking the price but not if 20% of the ammo wont fire. then to make things worse i was given 40 rds of xm193 which i didnt like the first time i baught and it ftf as well. I thought that it was my ar but it ate though 150 rnds of remmington like it was nothing. any thoughts on the hornady ammo. i can go my whole life without shooting the xm193 again but i thought hornady was reputable!!

What are you running the ammo through? An AR-15? Bolt action? Mini-14?

I'm surprised that XM193 would fail to fire. If anything would work then it would be XM193, especially if it is LC headstamp. What do your primer strikes look like? XM193 has thicker-walled primers to avoid slam-fires in semi-autos. Theoretically if you have a weak hammer spring then it might not provide enough "punch"?

My instinct tells me it might have more to do with your rifle than the ammo, especially since you had two different types of ammo with FTF's.

that was my thought too. Hopefully you kept this ammo to see if it will fire in another gun. It is my understanding that Remington primers are softer, though not as soft as winchester's.

I once had a problem with Miwall's "Factory" reloaded 45 ACP that were light and my new SA 1911A1 had troubles cycling...that is what triggered me to start reloading my own :-)

Ok, calm down. First off what weapon were you using? Was it clean?

I've "BOUGHT" many round from MiWall and had absolutely no issues with the ammo. However, I have had problems when my M4 isn't clean with light primer strikes.

On a side note, you may want to edit your post to make it more readable and correct the spelling and grammar errors. Just my .02.

used both kinds of ammo in 2 diffrent rifles. stag 2ht and lmt upper. both rifles have less than 150 ronds though them and both were exceptionally clean. the primers were dimpled deep after i ejected them, the same as all the spent rounds. im not really pissed at the makers just really wanted to know what is going on (bad lot or just bad ammo). i was origally like you guys thinking it was my rifle thats why i broke out the other one. any thoughts. oh and sorry for the spelling errors im not really good at it.

Sorry to hear about your FTFs. Personally, I haven't had a problem with either load. Gone through several thousand XM193 rounds in a Rock River M4-gery and an Armalite carbine with perfect reliability. Only run a few of the 75-grain Hornady steel-cased practice ammo in a Colt, but again, no problems.

My only suggestion: sell your problem ammo and get new lots. Fun show in Ontario this weekend.
