    SPR, Picking the Right Ammo

Hey all. I'm looking for some info on different types of match ammo for my SPR build.

Last Sunday, I was able to head out to the range and zero in my scope. To accomplish this, I used Hornady 55gr FMJBT "Training" Ammo (SKU: #9754EL). Apparently this ammo is intended for LEO's, but I came across 200 rounds of it for a steal. With it, I was able to get a couple good groupings once I was zeroed in. Here's my best shots at 100 yards, once dialed in.

Now, I'm looking to reliably hit sub MOA on this rig. I'm using an 18" Wilson Combat barrel with a 1:8 twist in 223 Wylde. Should I gear towards a 69gr round or 75gr round to maximize accuracy out of this barrel? Also, what match ammo would you suggest? I'm just trying to gather some intel and any/all help is appreciated.

I run a 75gr Hornady HPBT over 23gr IMR 4895 with a Winchester SRP in my 18" rifle gassed 1 - 8" twist Lothar Walther match barrel and get 0.25" - 0.26" groups at 100 yards if I do my part.

If you are not reloading Hornady makes loaded 75 grain match under the "Superformance" label. You can also try Black hills 68, 69, 75 or 77 grain match rounds. The Sierra Match King bullets they use in their 77 gr load is very well regarded but I get tighter groups with the Hornady bullets in my rifle.

I suggest you try a range of bullet weights between 68 and 77 grain from Hornady, Sierra and Nosler to find what your particular rifle likes.

.375" at 100yds with a White Oak 18" 1:7 twist with hand loads. 69SMK & 24.7gr of Varget. I haven't tried any commercial match ammo in this thing, it won't shoot lighter stuff worth a darn.

        Loaded to magazine length?

OP, if your group is in the circle you posted that is better than any of my ar's will shoot. Try Federal Gold Medal Match 69 grain and report back

The 2 groupings in the white circles are indeed mine. I was stoked to see what it could do with just that ammo. I was gearing towards a 68/69 grain round to see how it does. Thanks for the input!
