I started out on a Lee turret press and graduated to the 650 and I recommend you do the same. if you decide you don't like reloading, your investment is minimal and usually quickly sold on e-bay or Craigs list
If, after you have gained experience and decided you like reloading THEN get a 650. Don't bother with the 550 because the auto indexing and extra (powder check) station on the 650 and great features and worth the extra $$.

As stated before, the 1050 is way overkill except for the heavy-duty competition shooter who'll reload 10-20K plus rounds per year.

I always suggest the 650 over the 550 as your first progressive press for the following reasons:
Rifle casefeed option is not available on the 550
auto index combined with powder check station all but eliminates squibs and double charges
Once you load on a 550 for a few years and try a friend's 650, you ARE going to want the 650 so just get it right from the start so you don't get heavily invested in 550 toolheads and conversion kits.

The 1050 is slow to change between cartridges and I would not recommend one if it was to be your only progressive press.
I have two 1050's, each is dedicated to one cartridge so I never have to re-set them.
