    .308 projectiles

What is a good bulk .308 fmj-bt with cannelure I saw the Hornady 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 150 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail with Cannelure from Midway and saw the cannelure is off for the M1a/M14. You have to put the cann above the neck.

    Any suggestions?

thats what I usually shot out of my ar308 . cant you just crimp at the cannelure and adjust powder rate ? does m1a/m14 require shorter AOL ?

I was reading the reviews and from what others say, the projectile is out further. I believe that make the OAL longer. But I am not sure, hence the reason I am asking.

I've had good results with the Hornady 150 FMJ's in my M1A. I don't crimp them and load them to 2.800" length.

Cannelure itself is not very important in my opinion. I have seat my bullet cannelure out of the neck without any problem. Seating depth is more important to me. I just seat the bullets to the maximum magazine length and it work well for me.

dido. In my LR308 it gets a steady diet of Hornady 150's FMJBT. Good bullet for the price. They only shoot marginally less than the Sierra Target 168's. I don't use the cannelure as guide (I ignore it completely).

I've always thought the Hornady .30" 150gr FMJ-BT had the cannelure set too high. Not sure if it's because it has a secant ogive design as opposed to the more usual tangent ogives seen on normal 147-150gr M80 ball.

Never paid attention to a cannelure. I load the 140gr 6.5mm SST in 6.5 swede to an OAL of 3.14 and the cannelure is like a full 1/4" above the case mouth.
I've been loading foe my m1a for a while now and I've measured where the lands start, trust me, you won't load too long if your rounds fit in the magazine. I load to 2.810" and get great results.

Load your ammo for your rifle, not for the bullet you use.

I've also sold a lot to people who use them in 300 AAC

Get the Military 150 grain FMJBT bullets. The M1A/M14 was a military rifle, and the 150/147 grain bullet was made to work in that rifle - or vice-versa.

Yep in the Hornady 150 looks funny in the 308 when set to an oal of 2.80"

Does not look so funny in the 30-06.

Accuracy is superb for the money in both.

Not certain of the timeframe when Hornady made a change in the location of the cannelure, think it was 2007. They used to be produced to a 30 spec but changed to 30-06. Nevertheless, load them up, my fav in the SA Scout Squad.

Hey smoothy8500, want to sell some of your RG4895? I bought 4 of those 8lb containers from wideners back in the day. Wow, whatta powder it was/is.
