Plated bullets should be loaded with cast bullet data.
Plated bullets can not safely handle the operating pressures of traditional jacketed bullets.

Varget will NOT be a good powder for those bullets.

    Lots of good reading here:

that is probably because Xtreme is mostly plated bullets. the 150 grain 30 caliber plated bullet is no good for 308 Winchester since its velocity will be too fast in 308 Winchester for a plated bullet.

you're going to want a jacketed bullet to use Varget and 150 grain in 308 Winchester.

I use extreme 150's and 110's for one of my 3G bolt rifles' close range load. I use Trailboss. H4895 is also recommended for downloaded loads.

1800 fps and these bullets were giving me fist sized groups at 25 yards. At 1500 fps the were giving me quarter sized groups at 25 yards.

I shot them at a steel target at 200 yards... they were all over the place. So only good for close range.

You should not put in Varget powder.

This is non-published data so use it at your own risk.
I've used Varget with 150g jacketed soft points and Reloader 7 with gas checked cast bullets and shot both accurately down (or up) in the 23-2400 fps range with my Remington 788 .308 rifle

The Xtreme plated bullets have a fairly thick plating although they recommend not going over 1800 fps.

The reason Varget is not a good match for a plated bullet is that you will have a tough time going down to 1800-2000 fps with Varget because it is a slower powder and at that low of a pressure, you may end up with a very smokey shot with lots of unburned granules spewing out your barrel. The bullet will exit, but at low pressures the burn will be inconsistent and your accuracy will be poor. My lowest load of Varget with a 150g JSP bullet was 36 grains which gave me 2300 fps. That would probably be pushing a plated bullet too hard although 36.6g Reloader-7 gave me excellent results at close to 2400 fps with a 170g cast lead bullet so it may work for you. It won't be dangerous, you simply might find that the bullets aren't accurate. If that's the case, the plating may be failing at those speeds.

A better option would be to use around 9-12 grains of a medium to fast shotgun/pistol powder like Red Dot/Unique/Titegroup. You'll be in the 1500-1700 fps range where the bullet is happy and the recoil will be very light.

That sounds interesting .. using pistol powder on rifle . Sounds like great idea . Yea save the varget for other purpose

You can also take a look at 300 Blackout data if you are looking for other powders for this application.
