    Ammo Observation - San Diego

I was on my way home from the VA Hospital in La Jolla today and thought I would stop in @ Turners in Kearny Mesa.

I surprised that the ammo shelves were "fully stocked*." In .223 they had WBB 20's $11.99 / WBB 40's $27.99 / BH Blue Box (55gr fmj) 50's for $24.99 PMC Bronze 20's on sale for $7 & change. Also were boxes of Wolf & some brand that started with B. In pistol they had everything from .22 through .45. Lots of WBB the .9mm was a dollar or two more than WM. There was some .308 but it was behind the counter and I didn't want to bother the help. There was also some 7.62X39 from the usual manufactures. Sorry I didn't have time to write down all the prices, just going on what I can recall from memory.

Oh and not only was there ammo in boxes, but there were full cases on the bottom shelf.

There was slim pickings in the gun cases, and according to one of the guys working the counter, there is nothing in the pipeline. Everything they have on order is back ordered with no EDD.

While I was in the area, I stopped in at American Shooting Center off of Ruffin Rd.

Lots of ammo .308 in 20's for $24.99, American Eagle, Hornady Precision. Lot's of pistol ammo. Cases (at least 15) of .308, two pallets of .9mm 115grn fmj, .45, .357 SIG and some .44 MAG.

Again, not the cheapest, but that's the most ammo I've seen in either place in over a year.

Maybe people have realized that Wal-Mart is a pretty good place to pick up ammo?

People spending their available cash on semi pistols and rifles, ammo's a secondary concern. And Christmas. And the whole economic pucker factor. I'm really not surprised there's ammo on the shelves right now.

Turners in San Marcos/ Escondido was wiped out too. They probably only had about 6 1911's left in that whole case and overall it seemed kind of sparse. You could still get a glock or an XD though.

I just got back from overseas again and had a DW PM7 waiting for me. Iron sights in Oceanside had a few things in their counter to sell.

I'm glad I bought most of the potentially ban-able firearms that I wanted starting 3 years ago. Besides, the anti movement is going to go after ammunition now.

The East Bay is the same way with guns. My local shop has half empty pistol shelves and gun racks that were full a month or so ago. I wasn't looking at ammo though. I reload and have plenty of supplies to last a while.

            People are smarter!

It's Walmart and/or online for ammo. Every penny counts.
