Question for the .30-06 reloaders

I've just started reloading .30-06 for my M1 Garand and I'm confused as to the correct cartridge trim length. The published resources I have access to seem to recommend one of two lengths; either 2.494 or 2.484. Neither length recommendation seems to be specific to a particular bullet type or weight. It's just stated as the case trim length. As a newbie to reloading this cartridge I have no idea which length is more appropriate or if it makes a difference. Can someone shed some light on this issue?

2.494" is the max case length. 2.484" is what you trim your case to.

Dont forget to add 47gr of imr 4895. The only recipe you'll ever need for the garand

Garands use a flat base bullet not a boat tail. Wideners usually has bulk on the flat base bullets.

I use flat base in my garand. I also tried some m2 flat base bullets in 300blk out. And we're more accurate than the 147gr 308 bullets I usually use

Gbarbo001. That puts you into the majority category. Reloaders spend most of their time at the keyboard telling everything they know about head space and then when it comes to demonstrating a working knowledge of head space they start over.

I have a chamber that is long from the shoulder to the bolt face. It is .016” longer than a minimum length/full length sized case, or .011” longer from the shoulder to the bolt face than a go-gage length chamber or .002” longer than a field reject length chamber.

What is the point? I do not mindlessly trim my cases for that chamber to neither ‘maximum case length nor do I use the ‘trim to length’ I add to the length of the case. I want to cover my chambers with the case.

Then there is ‘the datum’, the case length can be measured two ways by reloaders that understand the datum. Some trimmers are designed to trim while set up on the shoulder with total disregard for the length of the case from the shoulder to the case head. I want to know the length of the chamber from the shoulder of the chamber to the bolt face. In the perfect world the 30/06 chamber is go-gage length from the shoulder to the bolt face. I off set the length of the chamber from the shoulder of the chamber to the bolt face with the case. I have always thought that was the reason threads were placed on dies and presses.

My cases do not have head space. I can not find the symbol for head space on SAAMI case drawings. I speak where SAAMI speaks and I am silent where SAAMI is silent.
