9mm reloading? worth it?

If your getting to Lazy to use your components and bend over and pick your brass. Then its probably not worth it . I know the feeling so im getting a brass catcher ;-)

To the OP, since it sounds like you not going to reload 223, and thinking about selling the dies, I got dibs!

i'll end up reloading them eventually, but i need to find cheap bullets first, and some spray lube.

Me too. I shamelessly ask all my shooting neighbors if I can have their brass. Most are more then happy to not pickup their "trash". I bring a 3 gallon bucket with me to the range . I never even get close to half full but on a good day I'll come home with an extra 500 cases.

If you don't have a C&R license, then I recommend you get one. Prices on components are FAR cheaper at Grafs or MidwayUSA than they are if you don't have a C&R.

I bought a 9mm die set for my press after I came into 1000 jacketed 9mm bullets for almost nothing. I'm still shooting some of those bullets and my uncle even gave me a 9mm bullet mold. Now that I own the parts, I'd say it is worth it to reload 9mm, but if you didn't get a cheap price on some of the stuff like I did, I'd probably be hesitant to do 9mm also.

It's still fun to reload 9mm though-just like any other caliber where you can fine tune the load, but the case size doesn't run as well thru my press as the fatter or taller calibers.

I usually buy everything in bulk... bullets in 5K lots primers by the case (5K) and as usuall, powder by the 8lb jug... the brass, like 45acp brass, hardly ever wears out.......plus using a Dillon650 press I can load 500rnd/hr average... but I do have 10 primer tubes for small primers. so I can load 1K at a tme without having to mess with loading primers as much.

have you had issues with the XL650 and the 9mm getting jammed on the last station (not wanting to eject out of the shell plate)?

I did when I first started reloading on it, but the problem was the lil chute guide that somehow had moved and was not properly aligned.

I still have not reloaded ammo but I have been saving all my 9mm brass and I pick up what ever 9mm brass I see at the range. I know that one day it will come very handy to have all that brass.

This is a different 9mm specific 650 issue. The xl650 is maybe the best progressive all-arounder ever made, but it does have a glitch with 9mm that dillon knows about. They have a redesigned shell plate, but they first suggest to massage your plate with a file and dremel to make it easier for the shell to exit before you send it back. The main issue seems to be that the wire under the center bolt rides high and kind of gets above the CG of the 9mm case and rocks it over enough to jam it from popping out of the last station. You can make it work by slowing down you stroke near the end. This is kind of against habit as all other common calibers just fly off the press.

Not a huge issue, but if there is an improvement, I'd like to know about it.
