    FMJ vs. TMJ

    hey guys,
just getting into reloading and looking at my lyman manual it only lists TMJ 115gr instead of FMJ 115gr bullet loads. I have Hornady FMJ's (115gr) and was wondering if the powder charge would be the same for a FMJ as it is for a TMJ or vice versa. Also wondering on what a good powder is for 115gr loads. Thanks!

its generally not safe to suggest loads

i do not know what caliber you are shooting

but i load my cast 9mm luger with 3.5 gn bullseye but that is only for entertainment value only

fmj are a stamped piece of copper full of lead

tmj are lead coated in copper but i am no expert

Yes TMJ and FMJ data is pretty much interchangeable.

TMJ means Total Metal Jacket. FMJ means Full Metal Jacket.

There is actually quite alot of difference. One is the title of a movie. One is not. And that's huge. Because, like, go to the range and say "I'm shooting 115 TMJ's" and people be like "yeah, whatever dude. You're not tacticool. You suck, poser. "

But go to the range and say "yeah, just loaded up the FMJ's on my Dillon, working up a new load" people will be like "man, you're my idol. Can I pick up your brass for you?"

Now, whether you're his idol because you shoot FMJ's or load on a Dillon...well, that's something I'm not sure about. But I'd wager its related to a color that rhymes with glue.

But as far as loading manuals are concerned, really no diff.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I thought TMJ's were plated with no exposed lead and FMJ's were swaged guilded metal jackets with the base exposed. Plated is supposed to use either lead loads or halfway between cast and jacketed loads.

          Is that incorrect?

For reloading purposes, there is no difference. They are both jacketed.

Not really, plated are that just plated. Jacketed have a thick jacket. They will load slightly different.
