    Bullet puller

So I caught a mistake in my powder drop and now I have to pull a bunch of billets apart, the hammer is not going to cut it here. Shadows can I use ? About 200 rds need to be pulled

I like this but don't know if the cast bullet will be usable afterwards. Barely dents fmj bullets. Noticeably dents plated bullets.

I use the RCBS collet bullet puller
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Would you say bullet puller method is faster than the hammer ?

I just pulled around 200 w the hammer last week. Had some 147's too deep. Had to wrap the handle with duct tape, lol.

I pulled about 150 bullets with a hammer type (Bought about 400 home loads from an estate for components). My wrist hurt for a week. Still have about 250 to go. Fortunately I knew what powder was used (Bullseye) so I can reclaim it.

                    I have three bullet pullers:

The inertia puller (hammer type). http://www.midwayusa.com/product/685...let-puller-kit

                    RCBS Collet type http://www.midwayusa.com/product/680...-bullet-puller

                    Hornady Cam-Lock Bullet Puller http://www.midwayusa.com/product/851...-bullet-puller

First off, no matter which puller type is used, count on there being some damage to the bullets. Working carefully, I have pulled bullets with all types of pullers that resulted in lightly blemished bullets that still shot as expected.

The hammer type is used when I want to limit bullet damage, to do this I pack a couple of cotton balls in the chamber so the bullets have something resilient to impact against. This protects pointed lead tipped bullets, but is not as necessary for plastic tipped or hollow point jacketed rifle bullets. This is the puller I use for cast bullets, especially if the bullet doesn't have an exposed driving band or straight nose diameter for the collet type to grip. I also switch the case holder with one from my loading press, but the newer hammer shell holders seem to work better than the older ones with the retaining spring.

The RCBS collet puller was the only one on available 30 years ago when I purchased it. It is a bit slower to use, and tightening the collet sometimes takes extra effort when pulling bullets that have been crimped and sealed in place (G.I.) or galvanically welded to the case neck. Some bullets that have become welded will not pull at all, just slipping from the collet no matter how tight. These have to be seated deeper in their case until a snap is heard, signifying the weld has broken, then they can be pulled normally. This type of puller usually will damage bullets rendering them scrap. The Forster puller is similar in operation: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/419...-bullet-puller

Hornady's Cam-Lock Puller is similar to the RCBS, but uses a lever to close the collet. I find it quicker and easier to use, and it works well.

Then there are the plier type pullers for lightly retained bullets, such as varmint or benchrest ammo without much neck tension or crimping.

Have a great time yanking those bullets.

I use the Hornady bullet puller. I had the same problem and was not going to use the hammer type. Easy to use. Goes pretty quick once you get a rythm down. I think I picked mine up on sale from Amozon. Of course MidwayUSA and any place that sell reloading supplies should have them.

I've not pulled any Lead Bullets as yet. This is not a problem in that the OP states he can melt them down.

That said. I've got both the RCBS and Hornady Collet pullers. I like the Hornady in that first it leaves NO PULL MARKS and secondly it is easier to use in that you pull down the lever vs twisting down on the RCBS

                        Both work very well

I haven't had to pull that many, but I had to pull about 40 rifle rounds, which take more blows.I just did about 10 per day until I was done. The pistol calibers I load come apart much easier than the rifle rounds!

I put a foam earplug in the bottom of my inertia (hammer) puller to protect the bullet.
