    Idiot mistake with powder questions

Reloading some 223 today with H335, and time to clean up and clear out the powder hopper, I managed to dump about a 1/5 of my rcbs uniflow into a brand new 1lb H4895 container. Does anyone know if this is close enough of a burn rate that I will be ok loading the 4895 in a 308 or should I toss the whole out?

I'd discard the powder. Your face and gun is worth more than a pound of contaminated powder.

I guess a small benefit is if you decide to discard it by burning, you get to see how 1lb of powder looks like when burnt! Or use it as fertilizer.

you might be able to sift it... h335 is WAY FINER than 4895. You would need a fine mesh porous cloth or screen. I would not load it mixed though. Unsafe to mix powders.

At least it was only a 1 pound can. I did it to a new 8 pound jug one once. That really hurts.

There is a basic reloading safety rule that says you never should have more than one powder type on the bench at any given time.
It would seem that following this rule could be helpful in your future.

^^^ Would not hurt to give sifting through a screen a try. Nothing to lose at this point.

I once dumped about an ounce of H338 into a fairly new can of BLC(2). I actually walked over to my powder cabinet and grabbed the wrong can. I hated throwing out that almost new can of BLC(2).

If in doubt, toss it out. Why take the chance for so little gain.
