    22lr price question

Please forgive me in advance if this topic has been covered before.

I went looking for some 22lr ammo locally yesterday. I visited a few stores and each had no stock.

I found a local store with around 10 boxes in stock(50 per box). Normal price was $15.99 and the boxes were on sale for $11.99. The sales man said good luck finding it anywhere else, which I found to be true in my limited experience.

I reluctantly purchased 4 boxes and left the store feeling like I made a big mistake.

Is this the current state of 22lr ammo?

Unless you bought fancy target grade tactipro ammo, you were ripped off.
7-10 cents a round is reasonable.
I recently bought 500 rds of CCI Minimags for 8 cents per round.

There are some threads here when people find deals.
    Keep looking and good luck.
    Online is easiest.

It can be had for .10 or less per round (which just kills me! ) if you're diligent and quick.

Check out the ammomfor sale and see if someone near you has some for sale.

      Or

Keep you eye on http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/rimfire/22lr/ or one of the other pricing sites. And then wait for a free shipping deal from the Internet retailer.

      Good luck.
      Sorry, not sorry.

Where the heck have you been. Right now is the best it's been in a couple years.

Yeah, you got jacked. But, it's totally avoidable. Stop in at walmart from time to time. Check cabelas, gander, etc. Watch the ammo holies thread. Without trying I've bought plenty of 22lr over the past year.

Thanks guys, I figured I was ripped.

Walmart was my first stop, but I will keep checking back. I just wanted to grab a few boxes incase it was really that bad. I will be checking around online as well.

FYI. The store that had it in Stock at that price was Ace Hardware. Sales manager said they were likely not going to be getting anymore because the manufacturers are starting to only service the big stores(Walmart, bps, cabelas).

The ammo you bought is by far superior to the ammo that you can buy at Walmart or big 5.
Match grade ammo is what you bought and you pay for quality.
If you just want plinking ammo for shooting soda cans the sources already mentioned will have it.
Wideners has CCI Green Tag right now for 14 cents a round and it to is superior to everything mentioned.
Eley Tenex and Lapua both make ammo that sells for twice or triple what you payed for the Norma.http://www.natchezss.com/lapua-x-act...mo-50-box.html. this stuff is 60 cents a shot.

Just left and they had four 50 round boxes for stupid money. Luckily I had a gift card from xmas and bought a bunch of .380,9,.40, and .45 for free essentially.

                          OP said,

                          Normal price was $15.99
Not "Norma" price was $15.99. OP never mentioned what brand he got screwed on.

Next time check the ammo classifieds here. It can be found for under $0.10 per round including shipping fairly easily.

I was just at a store selling 50 rd boxes for $19.99...$0.40 per round. Obviously didn't buy any.

While I agree with your general observation about match ammo vs. plinking ammo - How do you know what he bought? I don't see a brand mentioned in the OP.
