Can someone recommend me a good, clean powder for .45ACP?

I am used to VV N320 for my 9mm. It is very consistant and VERY clean.

Can someone recommend something for .45 ACP for me? Good, clean, common etc..

And... what's the typical bullet wt? 230gr? I will do FMJ or JHP...

I just started reloading .45 with HS-6. Seems to be fairly clean. Is VV N320 not recommended for .45?

              Unique.

Works for 9mm, and .45 loadings.

I used to use Unique until I tried Clays. I find that Clays burns a lot cleaner.

This is the best answer I've got!!

It didn't occur to me before that I should check N320 first!!!!!

N320 actually would work for .45 too!

4.9 to 5.2 gr for 230gr.... very nice...

PS. VV powders are sooooo clean.... worth its cost..... also, 1lb will make 1400 rounds (5gr)... so I don't mind paying a couple dollars more..

Is this a recommendation post or a list? I like Win 231 or Bullseye. maybe I'll try the VV sometime.

Most powders will burn clean the hotter they are loaded. If you are using lead bullets you can forget about having a clean load. I shoot with 5.3 of 231 and a 200g LSWC in a 5" 1911 and clean about every 700 rounds or so. You can have a clean gun much longer using 5.9 grains of Unique under a 230 grain FMJ. The cleanest combo I have found is 5.9 grains of 231 under a 200 grain FMJ . It chronos at 850 fps and makes a huge fireball which is nice on these cold days. Buy a pound of a few different powders and see what works for you. Sounds like a fun project.
