    8mm Mauser?

Back from Alaska and while I'm here I want to put in a lot of orders and take advantage of the cheap(er) shipping.

One thing I want is some reloadable, non-corrosive 8mm mauser ammo.

The two I'm considering is S&B and the Privi Partisan stuff. What's the diff, which is better, and what store has it for the cheap?

I don't have any personal experience with the S&B, but after comparing lots of reviews on various forums, I'd say that PRVI seems to have a slight edge in the opinion polls.

You can find PRVI being sold under its own brand name, and also as Wolf Gold and Hot Shot. It looks like only the soft point stuff is available right now.

    AIM Surplus - $12.50
    Wideners - $13.20
    Sportsman's Guide - $15.77
    Midway - $16.49

    J & G Sales has the S&B soft point for $17.98

Most of these companies are taking a lot longer to get stuff out the door these days because of the Obama frenzy. Some of them don't even take phone calls any more. So it might be hard to verify with them when your order will actually ship. Keep that in mind if you are only down here for a short while.

      Great, thanks for the info.

      I'd forgotten about the Obama-ammo-buying-frenzy.

Hopefully it'll arrive before the 27th, but if not I'll just pick it up the next time I come down.

Why don't you buy some remington cases and 200gr SMK from midway USA? Work real nice and way better than the Privi stuff.

Not (currently) a reloader, otherwise that's exactly what I'd do.

I'm hoping for Christmas money to buy a reloader's set, but we'll see.

Is Midway your main go-to for reloading and supplies? I ordered a catalog from Midsouth Shooter's Supply, Graf & Sons, and tried to get one from Weidener's but no luck. I don't think they print a catalog.

Gonna have one sent in from Natchez's too.

Midway is my one shop stop for reloading. IF they are out of stock of something at Midway, I go to Graf & Sons. But Midway is really good about restocking things in a week or two.

If you have $90 you can buy a complete Lee single stage reloading kit from there. All you'll need to supply is powder and bullets.

That was my first reloading setup and it was really nice for a beginner. But now that I've moved up to shooting in bulk I sold it for a progressive Dillon press (pricier at $500).

Reloading is the way to go if you're shooting some not too common rounds. If space is at a premium and you've nowhere to bolt down a press, get a Lee Handloader. I have one that I use when I need to make just a few rounds. They use standard dies, so if you graduate to progressive reloading, you've got the dies ready to go. Plus, it's portable. Although I doubt you'll be making rounds in the field.

I've read that the S&B shoots hotter than our domestic stuff. US manufactured 8mm Mauser rounds are slightly anemic vs the European. Privi or S&B - can't go wrong, both are reloadable.

Prvi or Wolf Gold...they are both made in the same place.

The stuff has a good reputation for reloading regardless of the caliber. Seems to be a little on the thick-walled side allowing more reloads.

Prvi has worked pretty good as my FN-49 reloads so far. I got some of the Prvi Soft Points 8mm, fired them from my bolt action. Reloaded them for my FN-49. Holding up pretty well.

What kind of rifle are you using to shoot the 8mm?

I was the one who bought Army GI's single stage press too .

                    How are you liking it

I loved that press. It worked fine for loading 100 rds of 30-06 or 44 Magnum for my M1903 Springfield or revolver.

But loading up 400 rounds of bulk plinking ammo for an AR requires a move advanced press.

The press is working great. Does my 8mm loads very well. I'll have a heck of a time with .223.
