    Purchased a new Dillon 550B

So finally after 7 years I got myself a reloading machine. The Dillon 550B direct from Dillon. I had built a table, purchased almost all I needed to reload .308 rounds, I had even took a reloading class. But then marriage happen. Never bought the press or dies.

Well after the divorce 4 years ago, I was able to get back on my feet to get into reloading. I still have the table and most of the reloading equipment.

I also purchased a new Marlin 1895 rifle last Sunday. So I will definitely want to reload 45-70. Question is, Dillon didn't show dies for a 45-70. What dies will fit in the Dillon 550B to reload 45-70?

It is a great machine. I loaded mainly my pistol cartridges with it, mainly 45 Auto and 38 Special.

Pretty much any set available will work. The biggest difference will be at what step the crimp will be. I myself don't like seater/crimper combo dies. To many issues for myself.

Any standard 7/8-14 die will fit.

Dillon does have a Redding Competition Seating Die in 45-70, and you can get them from Brownells also.

Lee, Hornady, RCBS, Forster, Redding, whatever floats your boat...a lot of options to choose from. Since it's a lever action you probably don't need a competition seating die, but those Redding dies are nice and it's money well spent, IMO.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up going for the Hornady die kit. Found it for $39. Now I'm going to shop for powders, primers and brass.

That's my setup so far. Still waiting for my new scale, dies, tumbler and need to still buy media. Then I can start reloading the first time in my life.

Yup. It was 32f here this morning and it gets to 100f in the summer. I also have a/c in my house. I was going to set this up in my garage, but changed my mind. This is a spare bedroom in my house, so it worked out.

                    Hi Franco,
Nice looking setup! Since you mentioned you're looking for the tumbler and accessories, check out this deal, I just got it the other day and it works great and I couldn't find anything cheaper!

Just buy whatever die set you like. Any normal size will work. However I have transitioned all my crimp dies to the Lee Factory crimp dies, I feel they get a more uniformed crimp at a price you can't beat (under $20)
