    Selling reloaded ammo?

I saw some folks selling reloaded ammo on Calguns and other gun forums.

Don't you need a license to sell remanufactured ammo?

I'd be wary about selling anyone my reloads or shooting someone else's reloads. Even if you are the best reloader out there, some idiot might manage to do something silly, hurt himself and take you to court.

If you do do it occasionally (don't know if the law allows for that), I think it is a good idea to have a written disclaimer with the ammo (not sure if it will fly in court).

    Just wondering.

Yes you are supposed to have a FFL to make ammunition. He's a fool if he gets caught. He'll lose his *** if someone has a misfire and gets hurt.
No disclaimer in the world would save him.

      Thanks.

I think you mean sell? Are occasional sales of reloaded ammo okay? What is the definition according to the law?

I know some NRA instructors who sell ammo that they have reloaded at gun courses they teach. Is that okay?

          and resell it.

Nothing wrong if you are using for youself or a friend, but if you are reselling it thats where the problem comes in.

Yeah, my bad. I was typing too slow for my brain and left the magical words out.

If the ammo you bought was remanufactured by a professional service, it is likely the tax was already paid (11% excise tax). Once you have it, it is just like buying factory ammo, it was made by whoever, and the tax was paid. If you then decide to sell it to someone else, you can likely charge anything you like since the manufacturing tax has been paid and you are just re-couping what you paid.

Now.. if you are buying components and selling the ammo you are making to make a profit.. that's where there is an issue. Unless you have a license and you give the govt their cut, they can get you for tax evasion. The other side of the coin is that if a lawsuit comes up due to damage or liability, you likely can be sued if they know who to chase after...

What IS legal is that if you have a press, someone buys all the components and has you load it for them.. well, all you'd be charging is labor.. You take your chances on whether someone will hold you liable for loading the ammo for them and anyone else who might get their hands on it.

Most people I know won't let other people load for them, unless they know them well, there have been occasions where I've borrowed ammo to finish a match and loaned ammo for someone else to finish a match, we competitors all know one another pretty well.. and know whose ammo works and whose doesn't always work I prefer to shoot only ammo made by me.

That's how I understand things.. YMMV
