Need some advice...

So I just started reloading with a RCBS single stage press. I'm currently loading 9 mm with RCBS 3 die carb set. My overall length for each cartridge is approximately 1.165 which is under spec max of 1.169, so I have no idea why I cannot load 10 rounds into a 10 round magazine. I've used every die in the appropriate process. But can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have not crimped the round because I didn't think that would make a difference... what am I doing wrong? I deprimed/sized, then put the case through the expander then into the seater die... The rounds chamber fine... But won't all fit into a mag...

Wanted to add, I'm using mixed range cases I purchased. And the bullet is 124 gr with a .355 diameter

On an auto pistol I would use a taper crimp, the last thing u want is for a bullet to jammed into the case while feeding and raise ur pressures to unsafe levels. That being said not much is needed, just enough to take out the flare and maybe a smidge more.

Now as to why u can't fit them in ur mag.... well most likely that's not relaoding related, but check ur cases for glock bulge and make sure ur sizing die is going all the way down to the shell holder when the ram is all the way up. On a carbide die u don't want much cam-over but it should be just barely touching.

But I would sugest cleaning the mags and making sure there is no debris.

Are you saying that the cartridge is .165" UNDER max length? And are you able to load 9 rounds into that mag? Your post doesn't make this clear...

To add to this post, what is your OAL on the loaded rounds that won't fit into the mag? What part of the round does not fit? Is it too long or too wide? And I agree with Fordtrucks, you need to use the taper crimp, at least to take the flare out of the case mouth after the bullet is seated. Pictures would help a lot.

Are they new magazines?
Have you loaded 10 rounds in them before.
Some new magazines are hesitant to accept that last round until broken in.

Doesn't sound like a reloading issue. I agree with the others, new mags can be tough to load to capacity. My Shield 7 and 8 rounders were finger breakers until I shot a lot of rounds through them. Do you have an Uplula? You should be able to easily load them full using an Uplula, even if you can't with your fingers alone.

Break out your loading manual. I will assume you have one. Next go to the proper page for 9mm. On the first page of the 9mm chapter there should be a blue print of the 9mm cartridge, as there should be one for any caliber cartridge.

This blueprint should be the SAAMI specifications. Next take your caliper and compare the measurements of your reloaded cartridge and compare them to the SAAMI blueprint. Pay close attention to the diameter of your brass case. This is where the problem may lie. If the diameter of your cases is too large this could explain the ability to only get 9 in your mag. A Lee Factory crimp die may alive your problems.

Do they fit in your chamber without crimping them? Normally the pistol case is flared at the mouth to allow the bullet to fit in the case.

For pistol I have only reload 45ACP. I can't get rounds in my chamber unless I crimp them.

Do you have a case gauge?

My OAL is 1.165, The magazines have been used before many times even tested the magazines with factory rounds when I discovered an issue with my reloads and did not have issues with factory rounds.
I'm unsure on how to identify whether or not the round is to long or wide. From what I can tell it's not to long, but I'm unsure.
I didn't bother to check the diameter of the brass so I'll check that next... And see if a crimp fixes the issue..

So an update, after changing the overall length to 1.155, all 10 rounds fit in the magazines...
At 1.165 they fit into the barrel of my XD but would not load more than 7in a magazine. After putting a slight crimp and lowering the bullet deeper into the case they fit into the magazines.....
