Cheap high brass 12 ga ammo

So I have a old J.C. Higgins. It's the only hunting shotgun i own and i planned on going hunting in a couple weeks.

Here is the thing though. First time i took it out i was shooting the cheap wally ammo with the low brass. the bolt jammed and i put it away till i got home. got home, and got the shell out. Went online and researched the gun and found out that you can only shoot high brass loads out of it.

Now all i have other than this is a 18 1/2 barrel pump, which i am very familiar with. I have never shot the JC and i want to try and find some super cheap high brass 12 ga ammo so i can get a feel for this gun before i take it out into the field.

can any one recommend the cheapest high brass out there?

thats what i thought, but i read a few reports on this rifle and they all were saying not to use low brass. I shot some buck shot out of it, no prob, but throw a low brass shell in there and BAM, it gets jammed

I just wonder if it is similar to a situation that happens with old .22 caliber rifles that fire both longs and shorts.
Firing a lot of the .22 Short sometimes causes chamber erosion that make
.22 Long ammo hard to extract.
I'd check for chamber erosion, rust or carbon build-up; or, at least do a very thorough brushing of the chamber starting with a "Choreboy" kitchen cleaning pad (sold at supermarkets.)
Wrap some of the copper fibers around a smaller gauge bore brush (so it will still fit your bore and not bind.)

For the life of me i cant find where i read that you cant use low brass with this rifle. But i remember reading it.

Im going to take your advise and give it a good cleaning.

once again, Thanks Calgun members for your help

I've got a couple of old cases of Federal high based #4 or #6 around here. I'd be willing to sell or trade them with you if, you are local and can shoot/hunt with lead.

If you are hunting in the Condor Area it is illegal to use ANY lead projectiles! If you are hunting any waterfowl, it has been illegal to use lead for many years. Please, before you go hunting, make doublely sure that you know and follow all laws and safety precautions!

Hunting quail in Condor Areas or some waterfowl areas will require the use of non-lead shot.
