I have probably reloaded enough 44 mag alone to pay for my reloading equipment twice and Ive only been reloading a year or two. Not counting thousands of 45s, 9mms, 38s, 223s and so on.Then you factor in the fact that its always available, much beter quality and a fun hobby.. win-win. I dont think anyone would really advise you to get into reloading if your sole purpose is to save money on 9mm and 223, two of the cheapest and most commercially available rounds. When you start saving $10-$30 a box of ammo that you shoot hundreds of rounds of per month, the savings are a no brainer. I you get into some real obscure rifle rounds, the savings can be paramount, and in some cases, reloading will be the only way you even have rounds to shoot. But yea.. if you shoot 9mm at tin cans couple times a year, you probably won't save any money..

It's been said a couple of times already but it can't be overstated IMHO. Cost savings are nice but when ammo supplies dry up those that reload (and especially those that cast) will be largely immune.

I am immune. Does this mean I didn't need to get that Flue Shot?

I didn't get into reloading for the "savings". I bought my reloading equipment after the Sandy Hook shooting when inexpensive ammo was nowhere to be found. I reload so the next time 9mm is $20+ per box I can still practice for about half that.

9mm is probably not worth reloading for cost savings as has been said, but I reload other calibers as well as 9mm so that I can go shooting when I want, not when the local gun store or Big5 has ammo in the caliber I need. I always have ammo ready and there has never been a ammo shortage at my house, that is why I reload. Yeah, sure some rounds the savings are minor, some rounds have bigger savings, I just reload them all and go shooting when I want.

The sad part is that once the sheeple vote Gavin's hand slap against us into law, guess what comes next after they easy neuter ammo availability? The smart people are stocking up on components as we speak. But we get a lot more of a head start. Give it two years. Never thought you would see Calgunners with hundreds of pounds of powder and hundreds of thousands of primers but I predict you will see this. Those of us who shoot want to keep on shooting regardless of what the tyrants in Sacramento want.

Big Bronco, we had better seriously build up our reloading clubs supplies of components, I too share your assertion that next year, people will be kicking themselves they didn't learn how reload this year. Remember the last shortage, reloading components quickly followed ammo being sold out. California shooters have proven time after time that they are mostly reactive, not proactive.

How are you guys not saving when reloading for 9mm and 223? Maybe you're doing it wrong?

Just off the top of my head, I was still able to get it done for half of what I could buy them for. Now that I started casting and powder coating my own, it's even cheaper.

Whatever, don't reload so there will be more powder and primers for the rest of us.

By all means, please DO NOT reload. This will make it easier for me to get powders, as many popular ones are still unobtanium.

I always get a kick out of people who claim they "did the math" after they already bought their reloading equipment and then wonder if it's worth the cost.

I got tired of not being able to get ammo. Sure, it is easy now, but not that long ago we waited in line at Walmart at 7:00 am to buy ammo. Never again!
Now I have plenty of components to load my own. Buy your bullets and components in bulk to save money and not run out.
Plus, I shoot long distance rifle, and want to tailor my ammo. I save a bunch on a round that goes for over $1.00 per round.
But more importantly, It is all part of the shooting experience. I go out to the Man cave, the dogs hang out with me, and I prep brass or load rounds.
                          I like it.

This. I'm about to give up on 9mm/.223 plinking stuff.
I will continue to load 6.5 Swede, 7.5 Swiss, '06 for the M1, hunting loads since solid copper ammo is hugely expensive and heavier weigh .223 stuff for my 18" SS BHW barreled AR.

Seriously? You can't find powder for 223?

TAC is a double-base spherical propellant that sets the standard for extreme accuracy and reliability with heavy bullets in the 223 Remington and match applications in 308 Winchester. Excellent flow characteristics ensure consistent metering and charge weights for repeatable results with progressive loading equipment.
