    Headstamp Questions On.. factory Ammo..

    Headstamp Questions On.. factory Ammo..

Strange I have a few boxes of factory 223, one is a box of Hornady 223 rem 55 gr Vmax ammo...But the headstamp is Winchester, I thought Hornady had their own brass and headstamp...?? The other two boxes are Federal V-Shok 223 55gr Nosler Ballistic tip...but the headstamp says LC07 nato stamp with crimped and sealant on the primer....bullet is a ballistic tip...
So I know federal has been running Lake city army Ammo plant for a few years but do they get to use the government brass in their factory ammo?? B2B

hornady buys other brass, i imagine when their brass manufacturing can't keep up with production for the loading operations. they often use Frontier headstamped brass also.

Federal's civilian market XM193 has a Lake City / NATO headstamp, as well.

My supposition is that they are now cranking out all their brass to that spec to simplfy things and using brass produced in surplus to military contracts to load pretty much everything else.

Most, if not all, Federal's XM193 is made by LC, and LC is owned by Federal...

Do you mean that Federal's AE223 are now having LC cases?
