    Shell Holder Identification

Being OCD, trying to identify and place shell holders into a RCBS organizer. Am down to the last two marked H10 & H32 @ 12 o'clock (with the die throat being at 6). They are smooth sided and shaped very similar to Hornday, but have not found any reference to them in the Hornady catalog. A 223 Rem will slide into the H10, but slops around side to side. The H32 allows a 30.06 to slop around some. They are not RCBS and Redding dies.

    >Update: The H10 seems to be a 40S&W / 10mmAuto. The slop fitting got me to try more brass and found that presumed match. Had some 50AE and that 'will' fit into the H32 with a push & snap in. Not a normal slide into a shell holder, but it is centered. Ah... Found some 44 mag brass that fits in the H32 nicely. Again a presumed match.

I guess the upshot of the query is to keep looking before crying 'uncle', but further why all the weird numbering of the shell holders? 17 shell holders across 4 manufactures and NONE of them are close to matching. At least RCBS puts their name on them and Redding is the only one that knurls. Sigh... <

Being picture challenged on here, hope someone can shed some light on the holder and caliber family. Is there a current cross reference chart that is 2015?

    Thanks much.

Check for a Lyman chart. I have a few of theirs with letters and numbers.

I am pretty sure that the "H" is for Hornady, and it'll be the same as the Hornady sizes without the "H". Check and see if that does it. It seems that Hornady 32 is for 45 Colt.

JMP: You're probably right. I don't have a piece of 45 Colt handy and after rechecking the 44 Mag rocks a bit in the holder. Might work in a pinch but the Hornady chart call for a 30 for the 44 mag. Thanks for the info. Appreciate. :-)

Most mfg's reloading manuals have cross-reference charts for shellholders, and probably online as well. I have seen them every time I have no interest in shellholders...

I will check later. I THINK I have one or some of the rare "H" stamped shellholders.

ETA: Yes, the "H" is for Hornady. Odd, some have it, some do not, but that's what it is.

                  Thank you

Thanks to all for the input! :-)

AGN2: The Dark Canyon link was the best, if a bit sparse. Easy to print out. Handloads was interactive but missing Redding & C-H. Hornady was best for their products, but didn't have a reference to the H on the shell holder that JMP sorted out. At least he saved the packaging. Grafs' has a great chart, but seems planned to be extremely difficult to print to have a ready copy. One would need an LED tactical light and +5 cheaters to read it. Thank you for the links.

Shell holders: Old catalogs are a good resource. I have no problem sorting through shell holders, my opinion the most important measurement is the deck height. Next is the fit, I have shell holders that fit, shell holders that are loose have more utility.

Shell holders that fit had a purpose or two in the beginning.
