Teach me about spam cans - 7.62x39

I have seen photographs of spam cans. Some newer with markings and some old without any markings.

A friend has several spam cans that were bought in the late 80s from gun shows. He forgets the round counts for each can.

Are they standard qty based on size of the cans external dimensions? I told him I would try to find a ball park for how much he is sitting on for him.

Based on the external dimensions, can one tell/guess the internal qty?

    Version One: 14" Lx6" Dx4" T (Like a tub with removable top)
Version Two: 14" Lx6" Dx4" T (Has a top and bottom, either can be removed)

Version one I can make out the words "For hunting use" stenciled in black on the olive drab painted can.

Other than that, the version two is not painted.

    Thanks for the help.
    Joey

One can he opened up some time ago. Its contents were individually wrapped in butcher paper in quantities of 30, 3 10-round striper clips. The clips are stamped with the number "31" on them. these rounds have a head stamp of 31 on top and 73 on bottom. I suspect they are Chinese. See photos.

edit: I took a magnet to the projectile and it is magnetic.

Got a more modern one, made by Wolf. It has 640 rounds, I believe.

Nick, Is it the same dimensions as I have listed?

After scouring the google images, I think the "for hunting use" can is 660 round HP rounds.

the unmarked cans are still a mystery.

It would take more effort than I'd like to dig it out, but it's roughly the same size as the 7.62x54R spam cans. These are FMJs though, not HPs.
