    Federal Ammunition XM80

Since I have found varying information on the above round I decided to ask Federal Ammunition this question:

I was looking to buy some Federal ammunition in the .308 caliber and was focusing on the XM80. I noticed there are different variations of the XM 80. I was trying to find information on the various differences but I have been unable to locate much information. I was hoping you would shed some light on the meaning of XM and what the differences are between the rounds of the XM80, XM80C, XM80CL, and any other variation of that line I may be missing. Thank you.

    Their reply:

The XM ammo is made for the commercial market and it has not gone through the military acceptance testing. The letter &/or numbers behind the XM80 are to signify the different package configurations.

    Thanks
    Federal

I thought this information would be beneficial to anyone with a similar question or incorrect ideas about that particular round.
