Recommened me a Turret Press

I'm new to reloading and want to get setup to start reloading. I've been reading a lot about reloading and talking to people that reload and want a few more opinions on what turret press to purchase.

I will mainly be reloading 308 and 223. I will add 9mm, 38/357, 44 and 45 calibers in the future. I want to also try reloading 30-06 after I'm comfortable with doing 308 and 223. I plan on only doing 100-200 every sitting. I currently shoot 500 rounds or less a month.

I'm thinking about the Lee 4 Hole Turret Press with Auto Index Deluxe Kit or the RCBS Turret Press Deluxe Kit. I like the auto index feature of the Lee turret. What other models do you guys recommend if not one of these.

I asked the same thing & got great answers, if you have time, get the Hornady Lock-N-Load, seems to be a good press & you get 285 or so worth of their ammo, great incentive IMHO.

I got 4 different presses to choose from. Any one have a good reason why one is better than the other?

basically how much you want to spend and what you're going to do with it.
the T7 is a good one but it doesn't auto index, so it's like a single stage with 7 dies.
the lee is a good basic press and not too expensive, but i said in the other thread that to make it easier you might need to get a couple other pieces.
the rcbs is a great press, but single stage, my dad has a rock chucker that he's been using for about 30 yrs.
and i have no experience with the hornady.
then if you want to spend more money and make a lot of bullets, there's always the dillon 550....

I'm looking to spend no more than $700 on equipment. I know pow, primers, bullets are additional. So some where maxing out at $1k total. I would get a Dillon 550 but I don't plan on making more than 100-200 a session and the extra $ for a progressive press is not what I need at the moment.

I really want a turret style with auto indexing so it's a bit more automated and less laborious. I'm leaning toward that Lee 4 Hole Turret Auto Index Deluxe Kit on Midway for $90. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=622290

I think I would also need to pick up a case tumbler, media sifter, electronic scale and calipers, case lube, 223 and 308 set of dies (for now), an extra Lee 4 Hole turret press for quickly changing calibers. Any thing else that I would be missing?

note: I know that it comes with a manual scale, but I'm lazy and like electronics gadgets because of its speed.

Get a redding T7, you can have 7 dies set up at one time on it which is great, and its a very stable press. I do all of my precision loads on the T7, all of my plinking loads are done on the Dillon XL650.

If you want to reload .30-06 on a Lee turret, then get the Lee Classic Turret Press. The other, as I found out personally, will not index on long cartridges but they will hang up as the index rod tries to rotate the turret. The Classic does not have that problem.

I'm primary a 308/223 guy. But will load very few 30-06 rounds for my dad to use for hunting. We are talking about 50 cases max at a time if that at all. I will turn off the auto indexing for larger cases and make sure that these 30-06 rounds are as accurate as possible.

I think I'm going with the Lee Turret Auto index Dlx version. Seems like a good starter kit to do a decent amount of ammo and can turn off the indexing to use single stage when needed. One of these days I'll upgrade to a 650 if I shoot large quantities a month.
