    .22 ammo on sale

Big-5 has Winchester 36gr. LHP on sale tomorrow for $17.00 for a 500 rnd. box. I never shoot all lead but I'm wondering, is this worth buying?...or not?

All this bulk 22lr ammo (Fed550, Rem Golden Bullet, Win) is pretty much the lowest quality, least consistent and mediocre accuracy ammo available. I would rate all this bulk ammo as plinking or short range hunting ammo. Nothing you would want to use if you really want to consistently hit something. I keep a few boxes of this stuff for kids to plink with.

For alittle more money, Fed Automatch and Fed 510 are more consistent, still HV. Then Aguila SV, Subsonic & Match are better for a bit more money. SK and Wolf are better still for a bit more money....etc

My experience with the Federal 550 packs from WalMart for $13.47 has been all good. Never a problem in either my Marlin bolt or Ruger 10/22.

        YMMV

The federal shoots better than most people can with their non-match rifles/pistols --

It all shoots good enough for what most people do with their 22s. I would rather pull the trigger 2-3 times to hit the same target for the same cost as one shot of match 22. YMMV

Buy it from Wal-Mart instead and save a couple bucks. Plus, you can do this year round.

                  CCI Blazer is much better

From what I have found, CCI Blazer is much better quality ammo for just a bit more $. It feeds and cycles perfectly in everything I have.

                    My model 41 wholeheartedly agrees!

I've had very good luck with the Blazer too! It seems to group better than a lot of the other inexpensive .22 alternatives out there. Anyone know of any good deals on Blazer?

Federal and Blazer are both pretty good ammo on the cheap. When I had my Marlin 925R I could get 7 shot groups within 1 inch at 50 yards using a cheap bushnell scope and rings that had difficulty holding zero. I was pretty amazed.

Federal works well enough in my marlin 60, can keep it under a quarter to 50yd or so. Usually end up with 2-3 rds per box that need to be rotated after the first firing fails in order to go bang. And it's pretty dirty. I have had much better results with this though, than with any other 'bargain' .22lr. Even the Federal target grade wasn't that much better plinking out to 50yd.

I like Winchester super X (silver box) for anything more serious & handguns.
