Reloading supply source near San Mateo

Any one have a good reliable source for local reloading supplies?

I've never been to them, but have heard that Imbert and Smithers carry some supplies. I have only driven by their store, never been inside.

Keep in mind that most places in the Bay area are pricey on supplies.

In South San Jose/Almaden area the Gun Exchange has some, but REALLY pricey, like $40/lb for powder.

Sportsman's Supply on Camden in Campbell (Camden/880) has limited supplies, but has some limited powder for $35/lb.

I've had better luck buying supplies here in the Private Reloading Sales, I've bought powder, bullets and cases at much more reasonable prices.

Short of that go online, IMO.

Definitely call, they limit to 1# of powder and 1k of primers per person.

They do have some stuff also, forgot about them. I did buy some primers from them not long ago.

And that lies the problem. I am not really looking for anything in particular. Nor do I need anything right now. In the past month I have made a good deal of online purchases but wish I was supporting someone local. When Tabors was still open, most everything you would need would be a ten minute car ride. There are times when you need something and your only resource is the net and four day shipping.
Took some time today and went to Kerley's, Bay Area Gun Vault, Eddy's and Imbert and Smithers to see what is available locally. While they all had some stuff, none of them could be mistaken as a reloading shop but rather a gun shop that has a few reloading items. Imbert and Smithers had the most items by far.
Guess not many hidden gems out there at this time. Waiting on Bass Pro Shop to open up later this year.

Gotcha. The Bay Area isn't a very reliable place to get something on the fly.
Most of my purchases have been done online as well. But here is a very reliable source for powder and primers in Petaluma. Great guy, and easy to deal with...and one of us!

Thanks for the heads up. I had found and contacted him through his ad on Craigslist a while back. Never worked out as powder I wanted was not available at the time. Definitely subscribing to his thread.

Funny thing is, I found him on Craigslist when he first started selling powder...before the ANTI's banned reloading supplies.
Petaluma Reloader's is still a great place to get supplies, slightly pricey, but they have lots of good stuff. A bit of a ride from you down in San Mateo, but a good place when and if you jump across the GG Bridge.

I would stay away from that place. Just seen/heard too many bad things about them. And on top of that, their prices on powder isn't that great.

I can't comment as I haven't been there, but I will say that Gun Exchange is another I mentioned and they even have their FFL suspended for firearm sales, but they do have some stuff but REALLY high priced.

I think it's good to know where we can get stuff in a pinch, if you really needed some primers would you let some bad reviews stop you from getting them at I&S ? I know I wouldn't.

I learned an interesting thing once at Gun Exchange, in that the owner is evidently the brother of the guy who owns Kerley's in Cupertino...both have some of the highest prices on firearms products around. Gun Exchange does have more stock, although it is pretty unorganized, Kerley's doesn't have very much and what is there is kinda dusty, so the stock is old.

Both Reeds and Sportsman Supply have a bit more, Reeds more than SS, but not what I would call well stocked for supplies.

The fact of the matter is most of us can only rely on these places in a real pinch, and will need to buy private or online and ship in with Hazmat for powder/primers, short of driving any distance. Even then the prices are not conducive to buy in most cases other than "in a pinch".

Yeah, The Bay doesn't have a dedicated reloading supplier. Several shops stock minimal supplies for crazy $$ like $35-$45 for a 1k primers.

Wonder if there's a market for a dedicated reloading store, a place to stock presses and supplies. Problem is competing with Grafs and the like. Even competing with dillons own site if one wanted to have a store and stock dillon equipment.

I have bought from Doug Fetterly Powders/Optics 3 times so far for powder and primers. Drove once to meet him in Petaluma and twice at cow palace gun show. Gas and bridge toll or parking and gun show enterance fee pretty much equals hazmat fee if I ordered online. Doug is a really great guy. Its nice to have someone who knows all the powders to give quality advice between all the different brands and types. Plus, I really believe in supporting local business.

Yes.
If you put Fetterly Powders in the search box, his powder thread will come up. He lists at the top of his thread which gunshow he will be at next. He makes the rounds in NorCal.
