    "Plated" vs "Jacketed" question

Is there a difference in load data for plated bullets vs jacketed bullets? One on my manuals differentiates and the other doesn't. My Lee manual only lists one brand of powder (Accurate # 2,5,7,& 9) for plated bullets.

I want to load 180gr copper plated bullets, using Bullseye powder and CCI 500 primers in a .40 cal Ruger P91.

Does anyone have a load they like using the above components?

I also have a little bit of Win. 231 left, but I'd rather use up some of my Bullseye.

    Thanks guys!

Rule of thumb: Load them to lead data vs. Jacketed.
The Lee 2nd Edition has sections for lead, plated, and jacketed in most calibers and bullet weights.

I use the lead data to start & sometime push it up to about 1050 FPS or so.

I shoot Rainier 180 gr. FP @ 1200fps using 11.0 of AA-7 with no problem.

I've been using x-treme copper plated bullets and called their customer service regarding load data. The lady who helped me said to use Speer jacketed data for their plated bullets.

Sounds like if I just go with lead data I'll be safe. But the bummer is my Lee manual doesn't list a load for Winchester 231 in lead. I'll have to use the Bullseye.

              Thanks guys!

                Beware!

Plated bullets are only "washed" in the plating. It is very thin and is nowhere
near as thick as jacketed bullets.

Don't load them too heavy or they will lead like a Big Dog.

No problem yet for me in .40, 10mm, .357, and .44 magnum.

                    The 231 data is here:

This is the Winchester load data site.

why worry about leading...? After my shooting sessions, I fire a few FMJ rounds to clean the barrel of lead. Works nicely... not as much work cleaning after the range.
