Went out to Steele Peak this evening and tried out these Gateway 240 gr .44 bullets with their Hi-Tek Supercoat and I'm pretty happy with them. As accurate if not more accurate then the Hornady XTP 240 gr JHP's that I've been loading. This Hi-Tek Supercoat looks like nothing more then a glorified powder coating to me but for $114.00 per 1000 I'm in. Loaded them with 23 grains of 296 just like the Hornady XTP'S. Same C.O.L., same crimp, same everything. Using a 1.600 C.O.L. and I had one that somehow came out at 1.595 so I marked it, and shot it and it shot just like all the others. I was curious what effect .005 would have on the pressure but shooting it out of a Super Redhawk I figured it could take it, and it did. That Ruger is built like a locomotive. I use a pretty healthy crimp too to keep the bullets from creeping under recoil. Going to order a couple thousand of these pills now.
Nice time at the peak. Only 4 other vehicles out there. Went all the way back by the power lines and when I finished shooting I spent about 45 minutes crawling around the rock piles looking for rattlesnakes but didn't find any. Lizards were out so snakes shoulda been too. Better luck next time I guess.
