    Policing 9mm brass

Man, I used to love shooting 9mm it was so cheap and I didn't feel bad leaving the brass on the floor. Now the only thing I leave are .22 casings. I hate scrounging but I'm too "thrity" to leave it behind.

There are a lot of quarters lying on the ground..... would you hate "scrounging"?

I haven't had a need to reload 9mm in a while (I still have a stock of "bulk" stuff I bought a few years back), but I still keep that brass.

The worst part of saving 9mm is when someone has been shooting .380 nearby... the two are so close in size, it's easy for the little ones to get into the mix, which in turn messes up the flow on your progressive press.

My wife shakes her head when she see's me sorting brass.

I tell it's like finding a mix of coins (nickels, dimes, quarters and occasionally fifty cent pieces) on the ground, but that you need to sort them and you can only "spend" them in a specific store (one of my favorite stores).

I actually really enjoy it. One of the indoor ranges I frequent is open till 8pm, I go in the evenings when no one else is there (during the week). Range master has no problem with me collecting the days brass, says it's less brass for him to clean. It's always exciting to see what you find. Also collect enough of something, you can even trade it. Speaking of which, anyone got any Nagant (7.62x38) brass?

I wouldn't say I enjoy it, but I'm used to it... Then again, most of my shooting is on BLM land. So, being a good, responsible citizen, I've got to.

                Sure thing!
I police up the brass, even 22lr.
What I can't use can get sold for scrap and it helps the keep the shooting area clean as well.

The article I read recently in Reloader magazine may make you think twice....

....they used spent .22LR cases as jackets for 223 bullets! I looked into it...you had to buy special hand equipment and lead wire to form the cores. I don't shoot enough (or standard production prices aren't high enough) to make me go that route....but still I thought it was pretty cool.

funny i always seem to be able to eyeball the 380 its the occasional makarov one that gets by be that is annoying

i see it sitting there loaded and i think something went wrong with the seating die

man i wish i could find someone willing to trade their 9mm for my .40

                        sorter

You guys ever use that plastic sorter for brass from midway ofor $30.00...it works great, but you still need to pick out the 380 from the 9mm, but teh sorter really does a good job on 45, 40 sw and 9mm, plus the 38spl and 357 come out of the mix pretty easily too.

Nah don't need a sorter. My brass is pretty organized. I bring a couple of plastic bags and sort as I scrounge.

I try to do the same thing. I usually have a bunch of old ziplock freezer bags in my range bag, since that's what I package my bulk reloads in.

If I run out of bags because of the wide variety of stuff found, the random stuff goes in plastic grocery bags (also kept in my range bag) to be sorted when I've got the time.

Funny how range brass seems to be a hit and miss thing. Some days at the range, no one is picking it up and seem appreciative when you offer to clean it up for them. Other days you've got to keep an eye on your brass to keep people from trying to pick it up without asking.

Sometimes I catch myself feeling a little let down after a range trip because I only managed to find half the brass I used. Especially if I've been shooting 10mm. I know silly but I can't help it
