    647bal 50bmg load?

I cannot seem to find my paper with the info.
I want to load some 647gr ball bullets with WC860 pull down powder.
Can someone give a range to use with this combo.
I was using 218grs with 700gr AP bullets.
Thanks for any help in advance

Typical "start" charges with 647 gr. bullets is 210 grains of WC860 surplus. I try to keep velocity in the range of 2750 fps in my 33" barrel. My magic number for WC860 and 647 ball is 220 grains of 860 surplus. I've shot several lots of surplus WC860 and it takes 220-222 grains to get my 2750 fps target with the different lots. I have had one slow 8 lb. jug that wouldn't get the velocity even with more than my normal load. Lot's of loaders say they shoot 215-220 grains with 647 ball. Depends on how hard you want to push them in your rifle with your components.

I agree with rg1, 210 grs. is a good starting point for ball ammo. I've always used 215grs for ball and AP as the load is light and doesn't beat you up.

Just keep an eye out for any over pressure signs, if you see any back off on the charge. Some surplus lots have been found to be hotter than others. So it might be a good idea to load up some test rounds to check before loading up a large amount of ammo.

        I've never had a problem starting with 215 for any 50 powder/bullet combo but, I haven't used 860 yet. So, maybe 210 isn't a bad idea.

              Mr Kubota
Ben have you tried any US869 and 800 grain bullets?

Yes... wasn't very consistent in my 29" Serbu, but worked pretty well in my 18" 50Spotter (M48) conversion.

RL-50 worked a lot better with the 800gr Lehigh hybrid solids, or good 'ole VV20N29.

US869 did give me some of my best groups with the 647gr Lehigh brass solids.
