I have a hornady lock-n-load Classic, a progressive press, and a forster co-ax single stage..... More often than not I'm sitting in front of the lock-n-load!

If I had no equipment and were starting today, I'd get the RCBS Rockchucker set that goes on sale, buy a set of cheap RCBS dies and get up to $300 to get the $50 rebate. At least that's what seams like a decent bang for the buck from all the spam ads I get. I broke one RCBS press, but I find their stuff usually pretty good.

Lee Classic Turret (cast steel, arrow shaped base). Not too cheap but a good way to learn the process. I started with the Lee Hand Press kit. It's a chore to build reloads but handy if you take it to the field. I also went with a Lee 1000 Progressive for 9mm and 45acp. It's quick and effective - but I don't like the powder measure (by cc volume). I also use the Lee Single Breech Loader for precision small batch loads.

Learn the basics using a turret or single stage from Lee before moving on to a Progressive.

I just got into reloading myself. I actually got the Lee 50th Anniversary single stage press to acclimate me into the world of reloading without breaking the bank. It should run you about $300 for a decent set up. I bought dies for 9mm, 45 ACP, 357 Magnum/38 Special, 44 Special/44 Magnum, & 223. Since getting a little bit more comfortable with my reloads for the .357 & .44, I'm contemplating getting the Lee Classic Turret next month for 9mm, 45 ACP, & .223/5.56. I'm also considering loading for 300 AAC & 7.62x39mm.

One of the things I considered in reloading were the calibers I found hard to get right after Sandy at a decent price. Of course every round was hard to get at a decent price around that time. I was running low on .357 magnums and didn't have a stash of 44 magnums to hold me over. So those calibers I needed to load for immediately. Hence, I got the single stage press first as I'm okay reloading 50-100 rds here and there.

I shoot my 9mm, 45 ACP, 223, & 7.62x39 quite often. I have a ton of brass from my shoots (except the 7.62X39). So I'd like to crank out more than 100 per reloading session. That's why I'm getting the Turret press next.

At some point, I'll go sell one of my kidneys and get the Dillon 1050. All the best to yah.

Hardly a kidney is necessary to purchase such a set up. Perhaps an arm and a leg?

You broke a RCBS press, this I have to hear about. They are built stronger than most tanks. Never heard of that happening before. Tell me more.

I started with a Lee single stage kit (I think the 50th year anniversary one). The kit is only like $110 but you’ll have $250 into it by the time you start reloading with a set of dies, a book, tumbler, caliper, etc. I guess it’s OK, the press works well. The scale and measurer are kinda cheap. If I had it to do over I would probably pony up for a better kit. Not for the press as much as the other stuff. But yes, the basic Lee kit will work and get you started.

$250 after rebate. Can't beat it.
