20mm but what exactly is this?

A neighbor kid stopped by with a 20mm round he said a friend of his father's (who is a real estate agent) found in a house and wanted to know what exactly it is.

It's marked 20mm MK11. I checked pics on the internet and didn't find anything like this because it has a flat smooth base and doesn't have a place for a primer. Even the dummy rounds I saw had a space for a primer. I'm not sure if it's a live round, the largest rimfire round I've ever seen or some kind of display piece. In any case, I told him to get it out of my garage :-)

Any ideas?

looks like electrically fired from an aircraft 20mm. Shake it lightly if you hear powder inside it is alive round.

Get rid of it no way to deactivate it unless you figure a way to put a hole in it to drain powder but then you will still have a hot primer in it and they are more powerful than a loaded 30 cal. Just the primer alone will blow an aluminum can to shreds if in front of mouth of 20mm shell. Local pd should do a surrender no harm or foul since it came from a kid. Maybe leave t somewhere safe from kids and do an anonymous call to 911. Use your mother in laws por ex wifes. (LOL) good luck

I thought the electrically ignited rounds still had a "primer" in the middle. This looks like a complete dummy filled with inert powder (to simulate weight).

It is possible but I have seen 20mm rounds that looked like that , They were ap from a pod on an f4 phantom. Not worth hooking magneto wires to it to find out. I looked at the booking info what was the perps name who had the acog Mike.

Put it out for display,dont fool with it and everything will be fine.

I know the final answer was a dummy round but your 'electrically fired' got me wondering. Anyone know about the electric charge required to fire those? How about a major static discharge from shuffling across my carpet?
