.357 mag. 148g WC load data

Hi there, I'm looking for load data for some .357 148g WC xtreme bullets that I picked up at the last gun show and am having little luck.
    I have the following powders available;

    Accurate 1680

    Alliant Unique

    " 2400

    Hodgdon H110

    " Clays

    Winchester AutoComp

    IMR 4227

Anyone have any data for these powders? It will be for a S&W R8 .357.
    Thanks!

You can shoot those in your gun with 38 special brass. Use that data.

You will probably have trouble finding published data for a plated WC in .357 mag. If you want a mild target load you can probably start with 38 spl data, even use the max load to start, and work up from there. Or just load them in 38 spl cases.
If it were me, I would try:
3.0-5.0 gr unique or 2.5-3.5 gr clays seated flush to the mouth of a mag case. Work up from there if you see fit and have the know-how.

For hotter loads try 9-11 gr 2400

        From Hogdons website
        Winchester Auto comp = 4.0gr - 4.7gr

I'm using 158 gr Xtreme SWC with 4.5gr of Unique for a mild 38 special.
Same bullet with 15.0 gr of h110 for a HOT 357. Hope this helps!

you can extrapolate data pretty easy. Get a few data points, say for H110 for the heavier bullets in 357. Plot in excel. Check for linearity (it almost always is, particularly from hodgdon), then trace it on down to 148.

Use common sense based on the data points you used (start loads, max loads, etc) to define your own start and perceived max and off you go.

And since you are loading for a revolver, here's a neat trick. For your development, always seat the bullet down onto the powder. After you find what load works, what range you are looking at, ensuring easy extraction and nonflat primers etc, work on crimp and associate tuning.

That really cuts down the risk for certain powders (for example the risk of downloading H110 too much), improves shot to shot uniformity, etc.

Shoot them in a 38 cartridge, they group much better. I tried them in 357; not as accurate. The powders I tried for 357 target loads where Unique, Red Dot, Bullseye, and Win 231. For 38 special tack drivers, I had great success using bullseye and Red Dot. Also, Clays should work well for you.

as someone who shot 38's in a 357 max and found perfectly fine accuracy, our combined experience sure flies in the face of "bullet jump" causing innacuracies, yes?

I'd use 38 special cases. If you don't have or don't want, just use 38 special data.

.357 wadcutters are specific to target, so you won't find much/any 357 mag data

Unique is the way to go. Any 38spl data would work great in 357 cases.

3.5 gr. Bullseye with 148 gr. hollowbase or double-end wad cutters. Expect about 750 fps.
