Dillon 650 priming problem

I'm having an issue with the large primer rotary assembly on my 650.

For some reason the wheel doesn't advance when there are primers in there. When it's empty it rotates fine though. Any help would be great!

The first step would be to take the primer assembly apart and make sure it is not jammed up with something

I would say there is an issue with the clearance of the primer disk and the primer tube. I would say that when the primers are in it is not dropping low enough to clear the tube and rotate. As Mbauer67 said take it apart and make sure it is assembled correctly.

Ok just took it apart and cleaned a bit. It functions fine when detached from the press, I just rotated 10 primers through there and it worked fine. When I bolted it down to the press it also cycled fine, but when I put 10 primers in it stopped dead...

check the primer seat assembly ,it may have backed off and letting the primer drop down too low and jamming the plate. it's the piece where the primer drops into

you do have the primer cam bolted to the press right? also make sure the primer accuator thing drops down into the primer plate (into empty primer hole) and it pulls the plate around corrcetly mabe assembled wrong?

It sounds like when you are mounting it the bottom plate is pressing closer to the feeder tube and reducing the space needed for the primers to clear. Call Dillon customer service and see what they have to say. They have great customer service.

LoL I thought that same thing.... If this were a red thread, it'd be all about how "should have gone blue and you wouldn't be having problems."

What about the no BS warrenty? Call Dillon and have them take care of the issue. That's part of why we go blue in the first place.

I had the same exact issue when I bought my dillon, problem was the priming index arm. And the washer that holds it. It wasn't advancing the primer disc when primers were inserted and the assembly was bolted down. I ended up polishing the index arm. Just call dillon for new parts. I had them send me a entire new priming assemble and fixed the old one myself.

I now have two working priming units one for small and one for large.

Well I never figured out the problem for sure, I just switched to my other priming assembly, but I noticed the clip at the bottom was somehwat bent out of shape.

I would have called Dillon and taken advantage of their no BS warranty but they don't have really good email service, and I can't make a phone call to them since the only times they answer the phone are the exact times I'm at work and can't make a phone call

You may want to disassemble and clean the primer punch assembly. It can internally accumulate primer residue which can cause the punch to not retract enough causing the new primer to be above flush with the platform and interfere with shellplate rotation.
