45/70 , 45/100 , 45/120 , can be used in just about any straight walled rifle cartridge , with proper loading .
BigBronco , won't cause KABOOMs in most "modern" guns , just modern cartridges .Bweise says "I have to say the situation was not at all helped by 22 yr old former Airsoft douches who kept touting here, "But possession is not illegal!" "

Modern powders are propellants, Black powder will ruin your day in a modern cartridge=KBhttp://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...0fa5fefab1.jpghttp://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...Untitled-2.jpghttp://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...tar76148_1.jpg

The only problem with BP in modern cartridges is you cant get enough in them to reach velocities of modern powders. You can't KABOOM them unless you leave air space in the case , you'll not get velocity , but if you follow proper loading procedures with BP ( compressed loads ) you'll do fine in most. And it also helps if you do not use jacketed , only cast lead .
Straight walled or near straight walled cases have no problem.
The original 303 Brit ( a modern cartridge) was loaded with a compressed pellet of , you guessed it ,BP of approx. 71 grains .
30/30 was also loaded with BP ( year 1894 ) just before smokeless came out.
Just because people hear it was the first smokeless round they don't think it was loaded with BP.
A case full+ ( again compressed load) works in 45 acp , to get it to operate you need to change out your recoil spring to a much lighter one , but it will still function ( its fun to watch people ask WTF was that ).
The real problem is people don't know how to clean a weapon after using BP.
And it's not a good idea to use BP in a gas gun , for obvious fouling problems.Bweise says "I have to say the situation was not at all helped by 22 yr old former Airsoft douches who kept touting here, "But possession is not illegal!" "

O/P, since you don't have any black powder firearms and you don't know what black powder is or what it's used for, you should pass on the offer.
Black powder is EXPLOSIVE and is very different than modern smokeless powders. It is dirty and corrosive. To use black powder safely, you have to use extra precautions using it. Failing to use these precautions, can result in serious injury or death.
Black powder was used over 100 years ago and most of the shooting industry progressed to using smokeless powders since then.
Hobbyists now use black powder firearms to take a nostalgic trip back in time to enjoy the older firearms used a century or more ago.
You will need a thorough education before using it.Comment
