    45-70 cowboy load help

I am trying to get load data for 45-70 300gr RNFP Cowboy (lead).
I have looked in all 3 of my books and cannot find much help online.
I am looking to load these for informal cowboy shooting. Just a group of us that gets together, not official. We walk a path and shoot targets on stands, Pretty close range. So I don't need a shoulder busting 45-70 top load, just on the low end. Enough to fire the bullet and not bruise my shoulder for a week in the process.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

Check out Trail Boss powder I've shot it in my Marlin, Trapdoor & Sharps very comfortable in all three.
I should add one of the things I like about trail boss is its a bulky powder and even the mild loads filled the case nicely be hard to double charge. I tried some published loads using Unique but it just got lost in that big case.

        Thank you

Thank you for the replies and help. I was able to come up with a few different loads. Of course I went to 3 different stores and they do not have any of the powder I need. I try not order it, to avoid the extra fees. I will just keep checking, I have friends looking at their stores for me as well.
Thanks again I will update when I get powder and try a load.

        Be safe

I am looking for IMR trail boss. I have been looking for WIN 231 and Hogdon HP-38 for a long time. I gave up on Universal.
I have HP-38 on backorder from basspro. I order there, because I can pick up from store. No haz-mat or shipping. Store is actually within walking distance from my home. I renewed my 60 day wait for my backorder yesterday for a second time.
I use IMR 4198 for most of my rifle loads. I have been lucky in finding those occasionally.

I have varget, and IMR 8202 XBR as reserve back up for when I cannot get 4198 or 4227.

            Thank you

Trail boss is the ticket. Not easy to find though. With cast bullets however, most fast burning pistol powders will work. Something like unique or bullseye, start with 4-5 grains. I've shot cast bullets out my '06 with 10gr unique and 16-17gr trail boss. Both are very enjoyable to shoot.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.
