    Stupid Stuck case rant

Well It finally happened to me. Was reloading .308 Norma Mag and got a case stuck in the die on the third case. Then I bent to decapping stem trying to tap the case out.Now I wish I had bought a stuck case remover beforehand. Ordered a case remover and will call RCBS tomorrow to see if I can get a new decapping spindle.

To those of you that don't have a stuck case remover get one you WILL need it and waiting to get it so you can finish loading sucks.

    Pain!

    That sucks, what a pain.

I have one better than that in terms of frustration. When reloading Prvi 6.5x55 Swede, the flash hole in the case was so small that it pulled the depriming pin out of my Lee depriming die. The only way to make it work was to drill the damn primers out of the case and widen the flash hole with a drill bit. Now the cases work fine, but only after way too much work :-(

If you pulled the whole head off the case try using a 3/8 -24 tap -- just deep enough to grip case and not cut through the case --

Haven't ripped the head off the case yet. I stopped once I bent the spindle. For now I put a hold on the Norma mag and am reloading some grendel rounds for my mini-30

Use enough lube and you won't have this problem again

Been there, done that, now I make sure to use enough lube....

It was a stupid mistake. This was the second run through the sizer and I thought there was enough lube left on it. That is what I get for thinking. It is a used die and it was leaving scratches on the case so I cleaned it really good (second mistake) after I polished it with some steel wool.

If you have the decap rod out why not just punch the case out with a piece of 1/4" rod or long bolt?

the rod is out, the expander is still in the case Tried that and couldn't get the case out.

GREAT NEWS- RCBS customer service rocks. They are going to send me another decapping rod today free of charge.

Love customer service like that. Even though I'm the idiot that damaged it, they still stand behind their stuff.

                            Get a stuck case remover.

There is an old reloader's saying....

There are two kinds of reloaders. Those that have had a stuck case, and those who will have a stuck case.

RCBS will replace their die (and parts), as warrenty work, if you damage them. Lee dies are designed to drive the decapping pin down, forcing the case out.

Yes, if you use enough lube, you should not have a stuck case, but then again, Sh*t happens. Get a stuck case remover, its cheap insurance.

If you can't punch the case out how will a new rod push it out ? Try some kroil or other penetraing oil, let it sit a day or so and then try to punch it out. If you have a big single stage press try reversing the die and use the ram with a punch to press it out --
